Theme Parties

Living in Los Angeles and knowing a lot of people creates an abundance of party invites. It seems like almost every night a friend, acquaintance or business friend is having some kind of event. At first, I tended to go to almost all (mostly for businesses reasons, then to support friends). But at some point going lost its glamour; it was no longer fun to borrow a designer dress, go to the same old hotel or see the same set in Malibu. Trust me, it really gets old when it’s all the same and the creativity is lacking or is worse – just bought.

It wasn’t until I saw the above picture from the Satoralist that I realized how much I really love good events; the kind where there’s a lot of thought not just from the host but the people who come. Where good, honest, natural conversation flows, cheekiness abound, food is divine and the scene a visual pleasure. Connecting in real, fun, meaningful ways is what I adore and not the Hollywood scene.

I was really inspired by the above party because the pictures show that everyone actively participated. There must have been build up for this (imagine the pre-party shopping and dishing?). Think about being there, dancing where you actually touched another person in a way where you weren’t up on them and picnic cloths abound!

Don’t get me wrong – I wouldn’t want this kind of party every weekend either. All the fun would be gone. But it’d be nice to do something unique (fourth of July or Bastille day?) this summer. Sure I want to put on a little dress and go to just another LA Party sometime but first, let me have one old fashioned party where the heels, the atmosphere and the conversation are a little different…
