I love this area too, having grown up in Cincinnati. My favorite area is the Brandywine area: Longwood Gardens and the Brandywine Art Museum which is home to Andrew and N.C. Wyeth... gorgeous!!! Unfortunately not all of Philly is clean and nicely kept.

You absolutely have to visit the Italian Market! DiBruno's Cheese Store, Esposito's meats, Sarconne's for bread, and Isgro's for pastries! Plus, the spice store are terrific, and the produce vendors carry a wide variety and are cheap!

Being a philly girl, it is so interesting to hear a different (and positive) perspective on my city. Wonderful, actually. Have you been to the Italian Market yet on 9th St in South Philly? It really involves all the sense. Have breakfast at Sabrina's (on Christian near 9th St.) before you do your shopping but be there by 9 am so you don't have to wait for a table outside in the cold.
